NZXT has added a new flagship to its well-known AIO line with the Kraken Elite series. The Kraken Elite 240 RGB not only features an improved pump and ARGB fan, but also a round 2.36-inch display with a high resolution. Our test shows whether the technology behind the stylish exterior can keep up, for which a surcharge of around 100 euros is payable compared to the “simple” solution.
Packaging and scope of delivery
The packaging of the NZXT Kraken Elite 240 RGB follows the typical NZXT design: minimalist, high-quality and clearly structured. The box is white and purple and shows a large-format image of the AiO on the front, with the focus on the new round LCD display. Key technical information such as radiator size, display type and fan model is printed on the back and sides in several languages.
Inside, the Kraken Elite 240 RGB is carefully packaged in a molded cardboard carrier for safe transportation. The radiator pump, fan and accessories are each packed separately and clearly sorted. This ensures that nothing slips or is damaged during transportation. NZXT mainly uses plastic bags to avoid scratches. Although the film used fulfills its purpose, paper bags or other more environmentally friendly alternatives would also be suitable and would better support the sustainability concept, especially in this price and product class.
The accessories for the NZXT Kraken Elite 240 RGB are extensive and well-structured. Everything needed for mounting on current AMD and Intel sockets is included. NZXT supplies brackets for Intel LGA 1700 1200 115x as well as for AMD AM4 and AM5. The backplate for Intel is made of metal and appears stable, while the existing motherboard backplate is used for AMD as usual. The screws and mounting kits are separated by socket type and packed in clearly labeled bags. This makes it easier to assign them during installation and avoids unnecessary searching. The enclosed instructions are clearly illustrated. Overall, the contents of the packaging make a well thought-out and high-quality impression that underlines AiO’s premium claim.
Assembly and installation
Mounting the NZXT Kraken Elite 240 RGB on an AM5 socket is largely straightforward and follows the standard design of current Asetek-based solutions. NZXT uses the existing backplate of the mainboard, which makes installation easier and saves additional work steps. The supplied bracket for AMD consists of two metal bars which are simply screwed onto the threaded bolts of the socket bracket using four knurled screws.
