Intel has launched a new PR push that at first glance sounds like a glossy campaign, but is actually a desperate bid for liberation in a geopolitical power play, report our colleagues at Wccftech: USAI – a patriotically packaged narrative that Intel is America’s only true option for high-end chip manufacturing. Behind the facade of marble and stars-and-stripes, however, is a company in a tight spot.

Background: Trust squandered, now comes the fatherland
CEO Lip-Bu Tan, formerly with close ties to China, recently had to appear in person before the US President – yes, Trump is back – to appease doubters. The symbolism was clear: Intel must reposition itself – as a bulwark against foreign influence, as a supplier to the US defense industry, as an alternative to TSMC. And as loudly as possible.
The new slogan:
“The future belongs to those who build it right. And it starts right here at home-in the USA.”
More pathos is not possible. But if you take a closer look, it’s less about pride in one’s homeland and more about tangible interests: Access to government contracts, funding and defense budgets.
AI for the military: “On-device, air-gapped, no internet”
Intel wants to show that it is more than just a CPU granddaddy from California. In partnership with EdgeRunner AI, it is now developing “air-gapped” AI agents for the US military. No cloud, no connection, but AI directly on the chip, ready for use on the front line. In plain language: Intel is supplying the silicon for the next generation of digital soldiers – a kind of Alexa with a gun license. The details remain sparse, but the goal is clear: to position itself as a system-relevant supplier of military AI infrastructure. In times of embargoes, export bans and AI arms races, Intel wants to show that it is on the “right” side – also in order to finally regain political backing.

TSMC, Nvidia & Co.: Intel’s desperate dance for relevance
One must not forget: Intel has been systematically left behind in recent years. Manufacturing lags behind TSMC, AI dominance belongs to Nvidia, and in the mobile or HPC segment, Intel is practically irrelevant. USAI is therefore less innovation and more a strategic return to an American monopoly – as a reaction to its own failings. The whole thing looks like a commercial to rescue an ailing company, which is now staging itself as a national treasure to conceal its own loss of importance.
Conclusion: USAI – between PR theater and geopolitical power play
Intel presents itself as the last patriot of semiconductor production – “made in the USA” with a dash of military romanticism and a double bottom. What is really behind this is a company that has realized that without political backing, it will no longer be able to win a flower pot against Nvidia, TSMC and the AI giants. Whether this campaign works depends less on the slogan than on actual performance – and on whether the Trump administration really does declare Intel a national priority again.
