The assembly
I am also new to assembling a desk. Therefore, in my opinion, this test is particularly meaningful from a layman’s perspective. All positive and negative points that I noticed during the process will be described and stated honestly and according to my own feelings.
First of all, I attached the four sturdy struts to both outer frames. These are attached with a total of 16 sturdy hexagon socket screws. A suitable wrench is already included in the set so that this step can be completed without additional tools.
This is what it looks like from above. What is particularly important to me in a desk – and what this one also offers – are feet that can be leveled. If these hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t have been able to set up the desk in my home. Due to unevenness in the screed and therefore also in the laminate, I unfortunately don’t have a completely flat floor in this room. A non-flat surface would have been problematic for a large desk. However, thanks to these adjustable feet, the desk is absolutely stable. I was able to align it precisely, similar to a washing machine, and now it stands as solid as a rock.
And yes, there is absolutely no movement.
Of course, I had to do the same with the second frame. I then had four connecting pieces ready, which I only positioned at first. These parts will later connect the two outer constructions to form a single stable frame. The entire system is then pressed together inwards until all the elements sit exactly in front of each other. Only then did I place the table top underneath to prepare for the next stage of the assembly.
And this is where it became a little problematic, at least for me. First of all, I had to measure the outer frames precisely because you have to screw them together manually. However, as I was not yet able to screw them together tightly, this quickly shifted, especially if you want to move the outer frames in so far that everything fits exactly. The middle parts were also movable. The middle struts could be moved from left to right, as can be seen in the picture. These can be locked in place with hexagon socket screws. This has the advantage that you can also screw this frame to a larger table top and is therefore flexible. After I had placed the components on the table top and measured and aligned everything, I screwed the four outer screws to the side plates. This was followed by eight more screws, which were attached to the mounting brackets on the sides facing inwards. Incidentally, these brackets have a rubber coating. I thought that was great and it enabled a good screw connection. This meant that the base frame was connected directly to the worktop with twelve screws. I think that’s a good thing. Control unit and control panel too.
But here comes my only point of criticism. I would have liked to see hexagon socket screws with the correct thread and appropriately embedded threaded inserts prefabricated here too. Instead, thick Spax screws were used, which were much more difficult to screw in. They slipped back and forth through the outer layer of the panel when they were fitted. These areas should actually have been center-punched or something similar. That’s why I had to get a cordless screwdriver for this step. The question is, of course, how often you can screw these screws in and out, even if they are now tight. But you don’t normally take a desk apart all the time. The advantage is that you can also install this frame under another top, so it’s all good.
Then two panels had to be placed in the middle on the left and right, which could be screwed together well, securely and above all stably with the existing screws. This also makes the whole thing look a little tidier. There were also four 3M cable ties included, which you can stick on to fix the cables. I don’t know whether I positioned them perfectly, but they fit well.
That was actually it. Now you had to put the piece on its feet with the help of a second person and the desk was ready. Incidentally, it is really heavy when assembled. Which is a good thing, just to mention it at this point. Due to the unevenness of my floor, it was easy to adjust the desk so that it was rock-solid. And once it’s in place, it doesn’t move. That’s a great thing, of course.
After we had set up the desk and I had set up my equipment such as PC, monitor and accessories, I immediately tested the control panel. I noticed that it fits in very well visually with the desk and makes a harmonious impression overall. The design is implemented in such a way that you can operate it intuitively without having to think about it for long. The buttons respond immediately, the display is clear to read and the colored lighting is unobtrusive and matches the overall control system.
I find it particularly practical that several heights can be saved. You can quickly recall your preferred positions, which makes it much easier to switch between sitting and standing. This means you don’t have to readjust as much in everyday life and you can get into the desired working mode more quickly. In addition, functions such as the locking option or the reminder function for changing posture ensure that the control panel can do more than you would expect at first glance. Overall, the controls seem well thought out and make a noticeable contribution to daily comfort at this desk.
The system runs smoothly and reliably.
