Introduction and unboxing
With the ROG Strix Scope II 96 RX Wireless, Asus presents a keyboard that combines performance, comfort and space-saving design. The compact 96 percent layout combines the advantages of a full-size keyboard with the elegance of a smaller form factor while offering full functionality including a numeric keypad. Equipped with the in-house optical-mechanical ROG RX switches, a triple connection option via cable, Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz radio as well as durable PBT keycaps, the model is aimed at gamers and frequent typists who want to combine a precise typing experience with modern technology. The sophisticated insulation, stable construction and detailed RGB lighting round off the overall package and make the Scope II 96 RX Wireless one of the most versatile gaming keyboards in its class.
The white version of the keyboard can be seen on the front of the box, fully illuminated with its typical RGB color scheme. The product takes up almost the entire surface and immediately gives the impression of a compact, high-quality device. The product name ROG Strix Scope II 96 RX Wireless is shown at the top in shimmering lettering, with the designation Wireless Optical Mechanical Gaming Keyboard underneath. There are several symbols on the left-hand side of the packaging that highlight the main functions. These include Aura Sync for lighting, the ROG Omni Receiver, SpeedNova wireless technology, 2.4 gigahertz operation and Bluetooth support. Other features are shown on the right, including the use of PBT keycaps and the inclusion of ROG RX Red switches, which are described as linear and fast. It is also noted that this is the German QWERTZ layout. The background is black with red accents and typical ROG elements, making the keyboard stand out visually.
On the back, Asus shows the technical details and features of the keyboard. The ROG logo is at the top left, with the product name again next to it. Below this, there are several paragraphs with descriptions in English that go into the most important functions. The optical ROG RX switches with fast triggering, the polling rate of up to 8000 Hertz, the triple connection option via 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth or USB-C and media control via the multifunction wheel are highlighted. A large picture of the keyboard shows where the most important elements are located. The USB-C port, the switch for the connection modes, the compartment for the wireless receiver, the LED indicators, the foam insulation, the PBT keycaps, the removable palm rest and the so-called co-pilot button are labeled. The technical data such as dimensions, weight, cable length, system requirements and the scope of delivery are listed at the bottom. Asus also refers to the compatibility with the Armory Crate software. The two available switch variants are shown at the bottom right: RX Red with a linear stop and RX Blue with a tactile click feel.
Inside, the keyboard comes in a white, soft protective cover with the Republic of Gamers logo and lettering printed on it. The packaging is simple and neat, and the keyboard fits snugly in a black shell, which keeps it securely in place during transportation.
The keyboard has a compact 96 percent layout with an integrated numeric keypad and German QWERTY keypad. All keycaps are white, the lettering is discreetly gray. The ROG logo is located at the top right on a special key, with the knurled multifunction wheel next to it. I personally don’t like it. In my opinion, it looks so squat. But that is of course a matter of taste.
