Color performance after a full software calibration
Of course, I couldn’t resist and put my hands on the OSD menu of the PA27JCV to see what else I could get out of the IPS panel.
OSD Setting D65 @ 200 Nits
Select the Native preset in the OSD, set Color Temp. to User and then apply the RGB settings as shown in the picture. Set the brightness to 37 (for 200 nits full white) and improve the white point and RGB balance for this brightness. The software has to do the rest.
Full calibration with Calman Ultimate
The results speak for themselves and those who work professionally will certainly have the right hardware and software at home to achieve similar values.
Spectral distribution and “Eye-Safe”
Today we have another spectral image that looks very suspiciously like a BOE panel. Unfortunately, ASUS is keeping quiet here, so this is just a guess on my part.
Spectral distribution @ D65, 200 Nits (100 % White Window)
The peak here is at 633 nm – i.e. in the red light spectrum. With regard to the subject of eye-safe, the blue light component in the peak is around 455 nm. Unfortunately, I cannot say with certainty to what extent this can already be described as eye-safe. If necessary, the blue light component can be reduced in the OSD, but be careful, this is at the expense of color accuracy.
Uniformity
The picture uniformity is surprisingly good – at least in my test sample. I could hardly notice the typical IPS glowing and bleeding here – and no other LCD diseases either!
Image errors and other issues
Apart from the weaknesses I pointed out in this article, I couldn’t find any other problems.
Sound reproduction
The PA27JCV’s built-in speakers are ok for emergencies. However, they can in no way compete with a good headset and certainly not with a sound system. The jack connection also works.
Webcam and microphone
Are not installed. This brings us to the topic of HDR.
