Some of you may have already noticed: As TechPowerUp reports, NVIDIA has installed fewer ROPs (Render Output Units) in certain models of the RTX 5090/RTX 5090D and RTX 5070 Ti than originally stated. NVIDIA has since confirmed this information and commented on the matter.

Here is a brief summary of the situation: TechPowerUp has found in an investigation that some RTX 5090 cards are equipped with fewer ROPs than expected. This was first noticed with the GeForce RTX 5090 Solid from Zotac. Instead of the usual 176 ROPs, only 168 are activated on this model. That is 8 ROPs less. Even if this sounds like a small deviation at first, it has an impact on performance, which can drop by around 4% to 5%. Initially, a problem on the part of the manufacturer was suspected, but it later turned out that the phenomenon occurs independently of the manufacturer.

NVIDIA’s PR Director Ben Berraondo confirmed to The Verge that in addition to the RTX 5090, some models of the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX X590D are also affected. The “D” denotes the Chinese versions of the NVIDIA graphics cards. Overall, the problem is said to affect around 0.5% of all graphics cards produced. However, this anomaly has now been corrected for future cards.
We have identified a rare issue affecting less than 0.5% (half a percent) of GeForce RTX 5090 / 5090D and 5070 Ti GPUs which have one fewer ROP than specified. The average graphical performance impact is 4%, with no impact on AI and Compute workloads. Affected consumers can contact the board manufacturer for a replacement. The production anomaly has been corrected.
Customers have the option to contact their graphics card manufacturer and receive a replacement card. Users can check whether their card has the same problem by downloading the GPU-Z program. This software can be used to display all the details of the graphics card, including the number of ROPs. However, it may take some time to get a replacement card, given the current situation. There are currently delivery problems and delays. You can read a detailed article here:
