Summary and overview of all games in Ultra HD
Ultra-HD (UHD) with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels is often incorrectly referred to as “4K” in gaming, although true 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels) is mainly used in film production. UHD offers exceptional image sharpness, which is particularly effective on large monitors. The disadvantage lies in the high demands on the GPU, as the number of pixels is four times higher than with WQHD. This increases the computing load considerably, especially when effects such as ray tracing are activated, making stable frame rates difficult to maintain. Technologies such as DLSS or FSR reduce the load on the GPU and ensure a smooth display without any significant loss of quality. UHD is often less useful on smaller monitors, as the visual advantage is hardly noticeable, while the hardware is unnecessarily stressed.
Calculating an average value from the FPS values of 11 games provides a rough overview of the gaming performance of a system in UHD. However, this average value is of limited significance, as different games place varying demands on the hardware. Compute-intensive titles can drag the value down, while less demanding games distort it positively.
The purpose of normalizing FPS values across different games is to present the hardware performance objectively and comparably. Since games place different demands on the CPU and GPU, raw FPS values of individual titles are not directly comparable. Normalization scales the FPS values of each tested game to a common benchmark before calculating an average value. This ensures a balanced assessment of hardware performance that is independent of the specific characteristics of individual games. I apply this methodology to both the average FPS and the so-called P1 Low, which describes the percentile value of the slowest rendered frames. In this context, it can be seen that the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti achieves a performance increase of almost 12 percent compared to the RTX 4070 Ti Super.
The P1 Low is a benchmark value that evaluates the frame rate (FPS) in critical areas. It indicates the threshold below which the lowest 1% of the measured FPS values lie and focuses on performance drops that can severely impair the gaming experience. To determine this, the FPS values are sorted and the highest value of the lower 1% is indicated as P1 Low. This value is an important indicator of the stability of the frame rate and helps to reveal problems such as micro-stutters or irregular frame distribution that remain hidden in the average value. In current tests, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is almost 13% ahead of the RTX 4070 Ti Super in this area, which indicates better frame rate stability.
In Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels), the power consumption of a system increases significantly, as the GPU has to calculate considerably more pixels than in lower resolutions. Demanding settings such as maximum texture quality or ray tracing also increase power consumption. The CPU also contributes indirectly, as complex calculations for game worlds and effects are more intensive. Power supply units and cooling systems are put under greater strain as a result, which further increases the overall energy requirement. Although Ultra HD offers high picture quality, it leads to noticeably higher energy consumption, which must be taken into account when choosing hardware. The following values show the power consumption of the GPU and CPU under full load.
The efficiency is then the counter calculation, so to speak, where the amount of watts used (average over the respective game) and the average FPS of the game in question are set in relation to each other:
