Summary and overview of all games in WQHD with super sampling, ray tracing and frame generation
In QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels), frame rates can be significantly increased with DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution), even with ray tracing enabled. Both technologies use upscaling to reduce the load on the GPU while largely maintaining image quality. DLSS uses AI-supported supersampling and offers the option of frame generation for higher fluidity in supported games. FSR is based on open standards and works with both AMD and Nvidia cards, but also reduces the render load and makes ray tracing in QHD smoother to play.
In tests, simple frame generation was used where available, while Nvidia cards such as the RTX 5090 with activated patch tracing stand out particularly in scenarios with complex lighting effects. AMD cards tend to rely on classic optimizations here. The choice between DLSS and FSR depends on the GPU and the game support. The calculation of an average value from the FPS values of 11 games also serves as a rough performance estimate in Ultra HD. The FPS values are added together and divided by the number of games. However, this average value only provides limited information, as different games place varying demands on the CPU, GPU and memory, which can distort the results. The approach therefore only provides an orientation, not a detailed hardware analysis.
Normalizing FPS values across different games enables an objective comparison of hardware performance, as games place different demands on the CPU and GPU. The FPS values are brought to a uniform standard before an average is calculated. This enables a balanced evaluation that is not distorted by the characteristics of individual titles. This method is used for both the average FPS and the P1 Low. As a result, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is nearly 14 percent ahead of the RTX 4070 Ti Super.
The P1 Low is a measured value that is used in benchmarks to evaluate the frame rate (FPS) and describes the lowest value that the top 99% of the measured FPS do not fall below. In contrast to the average value, which summarizes the general performance of a system, the P1 Low focuses on the analysis of performance drops, which can be particularly disruptive during gaming. The calculation is performed by sorting the FPS readings according to their size. The highest value of the lower 1% is then specified as P1 Low. This isolates serious frame drops that occur rarely but can significantly impair the perceived fluidity and stability of a game. The P1 Low value is therefore an important measure for evaluating the stability of the frame rate in addition to the average performance. Problems such as micro-stutters or irregular frame distributions, which could remain undetected with a purely average view, are made visible by this key figure. In current tests, the GeForce RTX 5070 ti outperforms the RTX 4070 Ti Super by more than 13% in this area, which indicates significantly better stability and lower frame drops.
In QHD with activated technologies such as DLSS 3 or FSR, the power consumption is primarily determined by the GPU load, especially in combination with ray tracing. Intelligent upscaling and frame generation reduce the actual calculated pixels, which significantly lowers the GPU load and energy consumption compared to the native render resolution. Nvidia cards benefit in particular from efficient patch tracing. Although ray tracing increases the hardware requirements considerably, the upscaling optimizations ensure lower overall power consumption compared to pure raster graphics rendering. Frame generation only places a minimal load on the GPU as it is performed on optimized hardware units. The following measurements show how these technologies affect energy efficiency and the maximum load on the GPU and CPU.
The efficiency is then the counter calculation, so to speak, where the amount of watts used (average over the respective game) and the average FPS of the game in question are set in relation to each other:
