Cyberpunk 2077
The fact that DLSS 4.0 can really be used with the new Multi Frame Generation is demonstrated in Cyberpunk 2077 with significantly better 1% low values. Stuttering is not really an issue here! I tested this with the in-game benchmark, but don’t worry, it runs just as well in the game.
Here too, the RTX 5090 is only just ahead of the RTX 4090 natively. Without DLSS quality, you definitely won’t see the 60 FPS. And please, don’t get the idea of using the 33 FPS directly as the basis for frame generation. Whether 2x, 3x or 4x – this is a real latency killer!
With the RTX 5090, you can play the game with all details and full DXR exposure at a very good 93 FPS and it also feels damn responsive. The 26 ms latency matches exactly what you see on the monitor. If you now want to avoid upscaling because you absolutely want to see native UHD, then you can see 120 FPS directly with MFG 4x, but the latencies are anything but good: 72 ms on average, which doesn’t match what you see on the screen at all. The delta is approx. 50 ms and you can feel it, you don’t have to be an eSportsman! The basis for frame generation here should be at least DLSS quality, or even better DLSS performance, then the latency loss in relation is around 10 ms.
The 277 FPS may feel quite ok visually and in terms of latency, but a real 270 FPS is something completely different in terms of latency! So let’s take a look at real high FPS and compare them with Multi Frame Generation:
As you can see from the example, there is a world of difference between real 244 FPS and the 75 percent AI-generated 277 FPS when it comes to latency. Yes, the comparison is not one-to-one, because I reduced the settings to medium and turned DXR off completely for this presentation. Nevertheless, NVIDIA should not confuse the topic of performance improvement with visual enhancement. If you can achieve 160 FPS with DLSS performance in maximum details and DXR Overdrive – without frame generation – then we can talk about a real increase in performance. Everything else is pure marketing and is intended to mislead customers in my eyes. An RTX 5070 with the performance of an RTX 4090? If you only had singing and clapping at school, then you’re bound to follow such slogans.
