Alphacool from Braunschweig remains true to itself: the company from Lower Saxony has dominated the market for water cooling components for over 20 years and consistently delivers products that not only function technically, but also make a statement visually. Now they are expanding their portfolio with a new Apex Distro Plate, tailor-made for the Fractal North XL – a case aimed at design fetishists.

When engineering meets bling
Alphacool considers the Apex series to be top class. What is supplied here is not only intended to cool, but also to show that cooling can be a lifestyle statement. Technically interesting: the connections – chrome-plated G1/4″ fittings made of brass, with O-rings and firmly embedded in the acrylic. This prevents micro-cracks and possible leaks. So far, so sensible. Because anyone who has ever had a wet short circuit after a hairline crack knows that prevention is cheaper than new hardware. The main material? High-quality acrylic glass. And because apparently no product can be sold without light in 2025, there is of course aRGB lighting on top. This not only makes the water circuit visible, but also turns it into a small private aquarium – this time for coolant.
The Distro Plate supports both D5/VPP and DDC pumps, giving the usual hobbyists a free choice. The included 90° mounting system allows flexible positioning – very useful in the tight interior of the North XL. The product is available in black and white so that it blends harmoniously into the housing. This is also a concession to customers who are more concerned with aesthetics than screwdrivers in a setup like this.
Usefulness or just prestige?
The question naturally arises: do we need something like this?
Anyone who wants to custom cool their system more elaborately and values clean hose routing will benefit. The Distro Plate makes installation easier, saves space, bundles connections and looks better than a pile of hoses. If, on the other hand, you are only interested in numbers and efficiency, you can save yourself the 200 euros and the light organ. In the end, it’s the radiator that delivers performance, not the Plexiglas show wall.

Alphacool’s strategy with the Apex Distro Plate is clearly aimed at the enthusiast scene: PC builders who want to show off their machines, YouTubers who love RGB and custom loop fans who already have everything – except this plate.
It’s not for the mass market, but it is for a growing niche market that is placing more and more value on modular solutions.
Conclusion
The new Apex Distro Plate for the Fractal North XL is a prime example of form meets function.
Technically cleanly implemented, visually an eye-catcher – but only useful if you are prepared to go to the effort of a custom loop anyway. For everyone else: hands off and keep AiO.
